Annie Claiborne Scott, age 77, of Richmond, VA departed this life June 5, 2021.
On Saturday, June 5th, 2021, the Angel of Peace was dispatched to the home of Annie C. Scott, and quietly uttered the Word of the Lord, “It is finished.” God gently closed her loving eyes and whispered, “Peace Be Thine” as she took flight to the land of eternal rest and everlasting joy.
Mrs. Annie C. Scott was born June 21, 1943 to the late Lugertha Anderson and the late Robert Claiborne in Richmond, VA. She was also predeceased by her grandmother Mary Cooper, her stepfather Silas Anderson, Sr. and her son Benjamin Brown, Jr., affectionately known as “BB.”
Annie was educated in the Richmond Public School System and graduated from Maggie L. Walker, Class of 1961, home of the Mighty Dragons. After high school, she graduated from the Piedmont School of Nursing in Burkeville, VA. She continued her education endeavors at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College and Virginia State University in Nursing. Annie became an RN shortly after completing her studies.
Annie started her Nursing career at MCV hospitals, and then at Stuart Circle Hospital where she worked in the ICU Department. In 1979, Annie began her RN career with Philip Morris USA in the Human Resources Department. She retired with more than 20 years of service from Philip Morris USA as an Occupational Health RN. Annie thoroughly enjoyed retirement and was a very active member of Hood Temple African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church where she worshipped since childhood. She served Hood Temple in many capacities. Annie served as Director of Christian Education, Coordinator of Health Affairs, a member of the Board of Trustees, and a member of the Missionary Ministry.
Annie was married to William H. Scott, Jr. on May 28th, 1982. She was a devoted mom to her son, Michael Donnell Brown and her bonus daughter, Celeste Antoinette Scott. Annie was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend but most importantly, a child of God striving daily to do God’s will. Her favorite scripture was “I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me.” Philippians 4:13. KJV
We celebrate her life, as she leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 40 years, William H. Scott, Jr; son, Michael D. Brown (Nicole); daughter, Celeste A. Scott; granddaughter, Bria N. Dixon (Devin); grandsons, Brandon N. Dent and Brett N. Dent; sister, Sandra Akers; brother, Silas Anderson, Jr. (Deborah), nephew, James E. Akers, III; great nephew, Javon K. Akers; devoted cousin, Mary Wilson (Richard); god sisters, Frances Gregory (Clayton) and Regina Harris; devoted friends, William and Yvonne Burrell, Normie Cameron, Lenora Thompkins, Cindy Goode Branch, Celestine Cox, Lillian Lewis, Hood Temple A.M.E. Zion family; and a host of relatives and close friends.
A viewing will be held 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021 at Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service - East Chapel, 5008 Nine Mile Road, Richmond, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 2021
Interment will follow the service at Roselawn Memory Gardens.
