Wyman Douglas Smith, Sr., age 76, of Henrico, VA departed this life on Friday, July 29, 2022. He was born on December 26, 1945 in Richmond, Virginia to the late Norman Page Smith, Sr., and Estelle Ford Smith.
Wyman accepted Christ at an early age. He was educated in the Richmond Public School System. He was a dedicated employee with Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC) and retired after 28 years of service. He was affiliated with the Prince Hall Masons of the 26th Masonic District, Richmond, Virginia. He was also affiliated with the Shriners, Oasis of Richmond, Desert of Virginia.
Wyman was an avid hobbyist and diehard Redskins fan. He enjoyed the challenge of creating and building many projects varying from mechanics and woodwork to photography, sports, and fitness; but his most favorite hobby was spinning on the ones and twos as "DJ Fat Cat". He was the life of the party. Always bringing good fun and laughter. Wyman always knew how to bring friends, family, and community together through his love of music, storytelling, and hilarious sense of humor.
Born the youngest of eight children, Wyman was preceded in death by his son Corey D. Smith, four brothers Norman Smith, Jr., Linwood Smith, George Smith and William D. Smith, Sr., two sisters Lelia Smith and Rosa C. Marshburn. Wyman leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife Barbara A. Smith, two daughters, Yolanda E. Newbill, Rhonda M. Newbill, three sons, Wyman D. Smith, Jr. (Sheila), Marcel D. Smith, Sr. (Regina), William Newbill (Monica), one brother Lawrence Smith; four sisters-in-law Valerie Briggs, Margaret Richardson, Odessia Braxton, and Priscilla Briggs. Two brothers-in-law Larry Briggs and Michael Richardson; eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A viewing will be held 1 p.m. - 7 p.m., Friday, August 5, 2022 at Wilson & Associates Funeral Service-East Chapel, 5008 Nine Mile Road, Richmond, VA 23223, where a funeral service will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, August 6, 2022.
Interment will follow the service at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
