Viola (Vi) Douglas White was born August 24, 1947, in Bennettsville, South Carolina to the late Ned and Eliza M. Douglas. At an early age, Viola accepted Christ at Shiloh Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia whereby shared her gift as a soprano in the adult choir. Later in life, Viola joined the Temple of Judah Church, Richmond, Virginia and has now served as a member in this ministry for more than forty (40) years. During her years at the Temple, she participated in various ministries including the Greeters Ministry, Music ministry, 5am Intercessory Prayer Ministry and the Mother’s Board, also known as, “The Golden Girls”.
Viola received her education in the Richmond Public School System and after high school, worked at various companies located within the Richmond area. Viola would later discover her passion for “flair” when landing her dream job at Thalheimers Department Store previously located in the heart of downtown Richmond. This opportunity of a lifetime began in the early seventies. During that career with Thalheimers, she would try out and model for Rhapsody Charm/Modelling Agency for more than ten (10) years. In the early eighties, Viola decided to depart ways with Thalheimers and try her hands at day care. Her love for caring for children would last for the next thirty plus years. Viola departed this life on Monday, September 2, 2024.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon L. White Sr and grandson, Rayshawn D. White.
She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory – Tracey B. White (daughter), Vernon L. White Jr. (son), four grandchildren Zeporia (Arthur) Jones, Quionte’ D. White, Saintia S. White, seven great grandchildren, three brother -n-laws, two sister-n-laws, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024 at Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service - East Chapel, 5008 Nine Mile Rd., Richmond, VA.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Temple of Judah, 2120 Venable Street, Richmond, VA.
Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
