Toney Zimmerman

Toney Zimmerman was born on September 22, 1945, in Darlington, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Kenneth (Biggie) Zimmerman and Elizabeth Saunders Pervis.

Toney transitioned to glory on Thursday, February 27, 2025 with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 55 years, Shirley P. Zimmerman; grandson, Stephen K. Bobb, Jr.; and his siblings, Josephine Bell, James Purvis, Willie Purvis, Rosebud (Macy) Tedder, Roosevelt Purvis, Edith Purvis, Joanne Purvis, and Kenneth Zimmerman.

Toney graduated from Armstrong High School in 1965 after attending school in South Carolina, then entering the Richmond Public School System.

Toney served with pride and distinction in the U.S. Army, and received an honorable discharge after achieving the rank of Sargeant.

Toney retired, after many years of service from Philip Morris, Inc. where he worked as a machinist.

Toney accepted Jesus Christ at a young age and enjoyed reading his Bible daily.

As the patriarch of the family, Toney leaves to cherish his memories three daughters, Katrina Balogun (Ola), Shannon Zimmerman, and Erika Natasha Bobb (devoted), and an adopted daughter by love, Anne Carter; six beautiful granddaughters, Samantha Hoover (Nathan), Yolanda, Raeven (devoted), Amber, Chelsi, and Stephany (devoted); sister, Carrie Davis; brother, Thomas Purvis; sister-in-law, Donnita Wilkins (Thomas); great-grand cats Hendrixx and Penelope Bobb; several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Toney aka “Poppy Bear” will be missed dearly.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2025  at Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service - East Chapel,, 5008 Nine Mile Rd., Richmond, VA.
