Rosa L. Williams Obituary

Rosa Lee Williams, 86 of Richmond, VA entered peacefully into eternal rest on June 27, 2024.  She was preceded in death by her parents Samuel Gorns and Rosa Lee Gorns of Georgetown, SC, her brother, John Edwards, Sr., and two sisters, Sarah Lee Doyle, and Queen Esther Branch.

Rosa was educated in the Richmond Public School System and attended Maggie L. Walker High School.  After high school she got married.  Out of this union came 2 daughters Denice and Sharon, and 1 son Thomas.  During her lifetime she worked various jobs to take care of her family; Miller’s Manufacturing, General Electric, and A.H. Robins.  She was well loved by all her coworkers who looked forward to seeing her beautiful smile every day.  She was the first one to work and her work ethic was unmatched.  She was a team player always willing to help everyone.  She was given a distinguished award from General Electric for never missing a day of work and never being late.

Rosa accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Morning Star Baptist Church.  In 1955 she attended a meeting with other Richmonders who migrated from South Carolina and were interested in organizing a church.  As a result, Third Baptist Church was founded, which is now Chicago Avenue Baptist Church.  Rosa had a servant’s heart, a heart of humility, generosity, gentleness, and compassion.  She had a passion for serving God.  She served as a President of the Alpha Development Noon Day Bible Study for three years, a member of the Combined Choir, a member of the Hospitality Committee, an Usher, and she taught VBS and Sunday School.

She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Denice Burton (Keith), Thomas Harry Williams, Jr (Brenda), Sharon Williams James; 16 Grandchildren, five devoted LaKeisha Williams, Kristin Burton, Brittany Burton, Lauren James, Le’Keith James II; Tanya Williams, and Kia Williams; 15 Great Grandchildren; two loving sister’s Elsa Mae Belfield and Mildred Willis; a host of relatives and friends including Marvin Porter and Mary Branch.

Rosa loved God with her whole heart and wanted to be remembered as a servant and Child of God.  She cherished each golden moment that God granted her to share and serve others.
