Ora Thelma Hopkins was born June 23, 1929, to Waverly and Christine Hopkins in Richmond, VA. She was the seventh of nine children; Christine, Martha, Cornelius, Calvin, Rosa, Julius, Gloria and St. Clair (Rudy), all of whom preceded her in death. The family grew up in Jackson Ward during the Jim Crow era of the South. Ora attended Richmond public schools, including Maggie L. Walker High School. She enjoyed hanging out with her friends at the local recreation center, and she also loved to roller skate and play sports. As an adult, Ora had four boys – Jerome (Roslyn), Dwight, Gregory, and Sheridan "Danny" (Angela) and survived her late husband Clarence Johnson who passed when their children were very young. As a single widow, she raised her four boys and her nephew, Leon Vaughters. She is survived by 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 3 great- great- grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at Fourth Baptist Church, 2800 P Street, Richmond, VA, with a viewing held one hour prior to the service.
Interment will take place on Monday, April 14, 2025 at the Richmond National Cemetery, 1701 Williamsburg Road, Richmond, VA.
