Nevin R. Hare Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nevin Ray Poorbaugh Hare, Sr. on June 10, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on February 13, 1948, in Mt. Pleasant, PA, Nevin's journey through life was marked by love of family, service, and an unwavering commitment to his country. Nevin was the cherished son of the late Harvey Poorbaugh, Nora Christner Poorbaugh Hare, and his beloved adopted father, James Hare. Through their nurturing, he developed qualities of resilience and kindness that would define his character throughout his life.

After graduating from Freedom Area High School in 1966, Nevin answered the call to serve his nation in 1968 by embarking on a distinguished 20-year career in the United States Marine Corps. Rising to the rank of Master Sergeant, he served with honor and valor. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Nevin was stationed with the Marine Aircraft Group 13, First Marine Aircraft Wing in Chu Lai, Republic of Vietnam from October 1969 to October 1970. His dedication and bravery left an indelible mark on all who served alongside him.

Nevin will be remembered by his three children: Angie (Tim) Robinson, Nevin (Amy) Hare Jr., and Nikki Spangler. He was the grandfather to eight grandchildren: Josh and Emily Robinson, Riley, Connor, and Jamie Hare, Sasha Shallies, and Gavin and Gage Spangler. His legacy extends to his three great-grandchildren. Nevin is also survived by his dear sister Debbie (Conrad) Engle and brother Jeff (Angie) Hare.

In his final days, Nevin was surrounded by family and the exceptional care of the CVICU team at Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, VA. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and doctors for their care, compassion and dedication during this difficult time.

Nevin chose cremation, and did not want a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Nevin's name to a veterans' organization of your choice, ensuring his spirit of service lives on.

The family has entrusted services of comfort to Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service - East Chapel, 5004 Nine Mile Road, Richmond, VA.
