Nancy Beale was born on April 13, 1926 to the union of John and Janie Edmonds in Macon, North Carolina. They then moved to Warrenton, NC, along with her 10 siblings. She moved to New York City at the age of 16, where she met her beloved husband, Obie Clinton Beale. They joined together in matrimony in April of 1944.
Obie later departed this life, where Nancy became a widow and was left raising her children. She was a mother of 13 Children, of which five are deceased: Lucille Miller, James Beale, Marie Gillard, Bernice Beale, William Beale. Nancy was employed at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, where she worked as a Dietary Aide where she then retired. Nancy was Strong and depended on Christ to supply all of her needs. She accepted Christ at an early age and stood on her belief. She was a loving Mother who taught her children to walk in the things of the Lord and the power of prayer. She kept the faith through all of her trials.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Geraldine Beale, Mami Partee, Edna Beale, Gwendolyn Beale, Janice Jones, Harold Jones (son-in-law) Milton Beale, John Hodges, Wilhelmenia Johnson and 53 Grandchildren Nancy was resilient, compassionate, and full of faith. She had a daily discipline toward the Holy scriptures. Her favorite scripture was John 3:3, Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Every time anyone would visit her, she would always quote it. She wanted everyone to know that no one will enter the Kingdom of God unless you are born again and live the life of Christ, Nancy Beale was ready for her Father to take her home. She did not want anyone to mourn for her, but to rejoice. Her death was nothing sudden; she was preparing us for this time to come. Her prayers were for unification. She touched the lives of others She loved her children so much that there was nothing she would not do for them.
Nancy was funny, she made you cry, she made you laugh. Together she desired for us to acknowledge and share both our joy in the gift that her life was to us, and the pain that her passing brings. In sharing the joy and the pain today, may we lessen the pain and remember more clearly the joy of the full life she lived. This is where she drew her strength and left her legacy.
