Mattie Virginia Christian

Mattie Christian was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  She left this world suddenly on March 11, 2023, at the age of 72. She was born to the late Mr. Urias II and Estelle Christian on August 1, 1950.  She was educated in the Charles City School System.  Mattie accepted Christ at an early age at Parish Hill Baptist Church, Charles City, Virginia.  Mattie was preceded in death by the late James "Jake" Russell, the late Lloyd Russell, sister, the late Shirley Russell. Mattie was a hard-working woman who took great pride in taking care of her family. She was a caregiver for her mother for several years.  She retired from JCPenny after 20-plus years as a very dedicated worker. 

She was very generous to everyone she met...no one was a stranger!  Loved to cook, and you never would leave her home without her feeding you and giving you a plate to go.  Music, OH YEAH, she loved dancing to good music...especially when she was cleaning her home and cooking.  She also had a great love for flowers and plants and could not wait for springtime to begin her gardening.  She loved the five neighborhood cats that she fed daily until her passing. Her BEAUTIFUL smile, laughter, jokes and the great times we all spent together with her will be greatly missed.

Mattie is survived by her long-time significant other Calvin Scott, her daughter, Catherine Christian Steele (Matthew Sr.), one brother, Urias Christian III (Gwen), granddaughter, Madelyn Virginia Allen, Devoted nephew/God son, Ernest "Vinnie" Russell (Patricia), and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Devoted cousin Hattie Brooks. Our Father Who Art in Heaven...Yes, she's in a better place now... 

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service - East Chapel, 5008 Nine Mile Rd., Richmond, VA., with a viewing held one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow the service at Parrish Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 12401 John Tyler Memorial Hwy., Charles City, VA 23030. 

The family has entrusted arrangements to Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service - East Chapel, 5008 Nine Mile Rd., Richmond, VA.
