Mary B. Dendy

Mary Belle "Brooks" Dendy left her earthly home on April 3, 2024, at Westport Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Richmond, Virginia. 

Mary was born July 26, 1933, in Pineywood, Charlotte County, Virginia where she was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Drakes Branch, Virginia. She was educated in the Pineywood School System. In her young adult life, she gave birth to five children. She and the children relocated to Chase City, Virginia where she found work in a local cleaners while raising her family. Later in life, she met and married Eddie Dendy. As time went on, the family relocated to Newark, New Jersey to pursue a better life for the family. She worked different jobs in New Jersey, including at the Papermill Playhouse Theater in Union, New Jersey- a job she really did enjoy. She joined Good Sheppard Church of Christ in Newark, serving diligently as an Usher and Member of the Mother Board. Mother Dendy was well loved and enjoyed her work there. 

Mary was preceded in death by her son, Jesse Lee Marble; daughter, Diane "Marble" Smith; father and mother, Charlie and Alice Brooks; two brothers, Robert Lee Brooks, and Alexander "Alex" Brooks; a niece, Grace "Brooks" Garner; niece -in- law, Carolyn Jean Brooks; nephew, Elvis Brooks; and son-in-law, Tony Williams, Sr. 

Mary leaves to cherish her memories, three children, Josephine Williams, Sidney Marble (DeVern), and Emma J. Johnson all of Richmond,Virginia; her only sister, Georgiana "Georgia" Brooks' of Montclair, New Jersey; one nephew, Charles E. Brooks, of Newark, New Jersey; 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. 

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2024 in the W.J. Wilson Celebration of Life - East Chapel, 5008 Nine Mile Rd., Richmond, VA, with a viewing held one hour prior to the service. 

Interment will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens.
