Mark Rydell Jones

Mark Rydell Jones of Charles City County, Virginia transitioned from his earthly life to be with his heavenly father on September 11, 2020.  Mark was born to Leonidas and Pauline Jones on June 16, 1965.  Mark’s father, Leonidas Jones, Sr., brother, Leonidas Jones, Jr., sister, Tara Jones, fraternal grandparents Oliver and Minnie Jones, and maternal grandparents, John and Madeline Crawley preceded him in death.

Mark graduated from Charles City High School and earned an Associate’s Degree in Engineering from J. Sargeant Reynolds.  Mark began his working career upon graduating from high school.  He worked at the following companies, E.R. Carpenter, James River Corporation, Nabisco, and Phillip Morris/Altria until his health declined.

Mark leaves to cherish his memories, mother, Pauline Jones; sisters, Daryl Jones and Lisa Jones; nephew, Leonidas Davon Jones; sister-in-law, Lisa Miles Jones; uncles John Crawley and David Crawley; aunts, Barbara Crawley, Hope Crawley and Shirley Crawley; god daughter, Jalon Abney; god brother, Robert Jones, Jr.; daughter-at-heart, Annalise Charity; son-at-heart, Richard Miller Jr.; sisters-at-heart, Wanda Ford, Staci Mason, Laverne Charity, Arveyette Snead and Vanea Preston; devoted cousins, Francyene  Burton and Sharon Golden; devoted friends, David and Renee Young, James Christian, Donna Hancock-Washington, Valerie “Cookie”Wallace, Jay Tessanear, Tyrone Cotman and Daphne Saunders; and lifetime childhood friends, Jesse Bradby and Shawn Allen.  Special thanks to staff member, Ms. Lashawn Green, of The Doorways facility for all your love and support during and after the family’s accommodations after Mark’s transplant.

During the COVID-19 epidemic, the family asks that condolences be expressed by phone or mail.  The family appreciates all the love, support, calls, cards and prayers expressed during Mark’s illness and death.  The family will miss hugs and affection but will be respecting social distancing guidelines to keep all family and friends healthy and safe during this pandemic.

A walk-through viewing will be held from  1 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at Wilson and Associates’ Funeral Service – East Chapel, 5008 Nine Mile Road, Richmond, VA.

Funeral services can be viewed 1 p.m. Thursday, September 17, 2020 at Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service's website at www.wilsonafs.com.

Private interment will be held at Gilfield Baptist Church Cemetery, 6640 Church Lane, Charles City, VA. 

There will not be a repast.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Doorways, a non-profit facility that provides lodging and support to patients and families who need to be close to hospitals.  The family will ensure your donation is made in memory of Mark.
