Marie Jeffries Cornish

Marie Jeffries Cornish, age 82, was born to the late William and Betty Jeffries, in Richmond, Virginia.  She received her education throughout the Richmond Public School System.  Marie later married her long time friend Clyde Cornish.

Marie was employed at George’s Steak House Restaurant on Broad Street for many years before moving on to C.F. Sauer’s; where she later retired.

Marie was baptized at Pilgrim Journey Baptist Church in Henrico, Virginia at an early age.  After uniting with her beloved Pastor Gerald O. Glenn at First Union Baptist Church, and being one of the charter members when Bishop Glenn, incorporated New Deliverance Evangelistic Church, 1701 Turner Road.  Marie was re-baptized at her new worship home. Marie was a dedicated worker in the Lord’s Army. She volunteered whenever needed to spread GOD’s word or show GOD’s love to others. She was chosen to be a Mother of the Church, and as all of you here know; she loved that assignment. Mother Cornish volunteered in the church office; Monday through Friday, answering the telephone and greeting all guests.  She wrote consistently to the prison inmates, was a part of the Golden Age Ministry and Mother’s Board.

Mother Cornish was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Cornish; parents William and Betty Jeffries; eight brothers and five sisters.

Mother Cornish leave to cherish her precious memory:  daughter, Velva Brown (John III); grandson, John Brown IV; great-granddaughter, Ava Woodson; great-grandson, John Brown V.  Sisters, Verlena Jeffries and Sylvia Henderson; one sister in-law, Julia Jeffries and two brothers in-law; George Fleming, Sr. and Jimmy Cornish (Annette) ; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

A viewing will be held 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Wilson & Associates Funeral Service - East Chapel, 5008 Nine Mile Road, Richmond, VA., where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, June 2, 2022. 

Interment will follow service at Maury Cemetery.

The family has entrusted final arrangements to Wilson & Associates Funeral Service - East Chapel, 5008 Nine Mile Road, Richmond, VA.
