Margaret R. Stanback Obituary

Margaret Rose Stanback was born November 20, 1951, in Jackson Mississippi to the late Sgt. Willie Lockwood and Mrs. Rosalie Wolfe Lockwood. During her formative years, the family relocated to the Richmond, Virginia area where Margaret attended school in the Henrico County public school system. As an inspired teenager, she graduated from Hermitage High School and furthered her education by attending Virginia Commonwealth University, where she received her bachelor’s degree.

Margaret wanted children and God rewarded her with her only child, a son, Jonathan D. Hardy. Margaret’s total focus was providing a balanced, secure life for herself and Jonathan, until a mutual friend, Shirley Peoples, introduced her to Charles H. Stanback, who she thought would be a great match. It was, indeed, a match made in heaven because the two became inseparable and were married. In that union of seventeen years, they shared a joyful life together as soulmates.

As a licensed cosmetologist, Margaret excelled in haircare and beauty styling. Her hair was always immaculate, and she too dressed to perfection. Her signature style matched her beautiful smile and optimistic personality. As a second career, Margaret enjoyed more than 10 years in the banking industry before retiring from Bank of America where she specialized in mortgage lending and financial services.

Margaret accepted Christ at an early age and had been a dutiful Christian for over 40 years. She was a longtime member of St. Peter Baptist church in Glen Allen, Virginia, where she proudly served as a member of the senior choir, auxiliary usher board, and mission ministry. For fun, she was a student at the Greater Richmond School of Music, where she learned to play the piano.

During the final stages of her life, family members and cherished friends provided love, support, comfort, and encouragement until the end. In a unified effort, many relatives traveled countless miles to assist with her care.  Throughout the battle, Margaret fought with bravery and tenacity until the Lord called her home.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, but leaves to mourn her amazing husband Charles H. Stanback; devoted son Jonathan D. Handy; devoted nephew Garland L. Mickens, Jr.; stepchildren Charles E. Stanback, Cynthia R. Myles, and Blake C. Stanback; sister, Wautausa Khezam; brothers Keith W. Ronald and Billie Lockwood; grandson, Porter Harris; sisters-in-law Edna Harris-Kenner, and Saundra Barrett; brothers-in-law Marvin and James Stanback; extended family members David Barrett and Gora Stanback, several cousins and a large host of loving nieces and nephews.
