Mamie L. Newsome

Mamie L. Newsome quietly went home to be with the Lord on August 1, 2024. She was born in Emporia VA on January 7, 1947 to the late Richard Turner and Lucy M. Wright Turner.

Mamie graduated from Maggie L. Walker High School, class of 1966. She met and married the love of her life Wilbert L. Newsome, Sr. on August 2, 1975.  From this union one daughter was born, Sherita Newsome.

Mamie worked many years at Siegel’s Supermarket on N. 25th Street, where she was loved by many.  She later transferred to the Siegel’s Market on Chamberlayne Avenue, where she worked until the transition of the store.  She loved working with the public where she furthered her work experience with the Market Place located on Main Street, until she retired in 2010.

Mamie was preceded in death by her two sisters; Marilyn Velma Turner and Edith Jane Turner. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Wilbert L. Newsome, Sr.; two daughters, Vernitia Jones and Sherita Newsome; eight grandchildren, Rodney, DeAngelo, and De’Andre Turner, Tevin and Melita Jones, Na’Khiya and Trequan Newsome; a devoted friend, Helen T. Day; and other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service - East Chapel, 5008 Nine Mile Rd., Richmond, VA, with the family receiving friends from 5 - 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service - East Chapel 5008 Nine Mile Rd., Richmond.

Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Richmond, VA.
