On September 11, 2024 Mamie’s soul quietly & peacefully took flight from this earthly life, as she surrendered unto sweet rest with the Heavenly Father.
Mamie Elizabeth Stephens was born on June 22, 1943 in Emporia, VA to the late Robert & Gladys Broadway. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Stephens; her parents, Gladys & Robert Broadway; sister, Mary Archie; and brother, Leroy Davis.
Mamie was known as the “Prayer Warrior” and ultimate woman of God. She implemented wisdom & knowledge from God’s word, (The “Good Book” as she refers to it) in all of her teaching and advice. She was truly the monarch of her family and a mother to all. Mamie was a faithful servant in the church. As a member of Redeem Church of God in Christ, she a choir member. She dedicated 20 years to nursing and later became a foster parent. She also opened her own in-home daycare. Servicing families for many years. Mamie helped so many people and so many children in the foster care system. She was truly an angel sent to earth to help those in need.
She leaves to cherish her memory five daughters, Elaine Robertson (James), Gina Stephens, Hazelene Stephens, Loretta Stephens, and Elizabeth Stephens; three sons, Edward “Paul” Christian (Lynette), Lawrence Stephens, and William Stephens, Jr.; nine grandchildren, Oran Christian, Rolert Christian, Keith Hewlett, II, Kenneth Watson, Lizarre Stephens-Watson, Jamar Yancey, Jr., Paulette, Paul, and Kwame Jackson; seven great-grandchildren, Oran Christian, Jr., Tre’quan Smith, Shamari Christian, A’maya Moseley, Keiondre, Keishawn and Kiari Hewlett; dedicated aunt, Hollie Johnson (Sis); two dedicated cousins, Hollie Johnson, and April Hill-Russell, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including dedicated friends: Lillie Smith, Cynthia Coe, and Paulette Singleton.
A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service - East Chapel, 5008 Nine Mile Rd., Richmond, VA, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024.
Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Richmond, VA.
