Lucille R. Peatross Obituary

On December 10, 1942, a beautiful flower named Lucille Virginia Robinson graced the world with her presence. She was the first born to Emanuel A. and Mattie Garnett Robinson. On Saturday evening, May 3, 2025 at 7:31 p.m., God reached down and picked a beautiful flower and placed it in his garden. In addition to her parents, Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis G. Peatross, and her sister, Vernell Elaine Robinson.

Lucille was born in Caroline County and raised in Ashland, Virginia.  At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined the historic Brown Grove Baptist Church. Lucille attended and graduated from John M. Gandy High School in 1961. She attended Temple Nursing School in Washington, D.C. and worked at the old Richmond Memorial Hospital when it was on Westwood Avenue in Richmond, Virginia. She was later employed by the Harland Check Company in Richmond until her retirement.

Lucille met and married the love of her life, Curtis “Granny” Peatross. Although she never had children, she loved, nurtured, and spoiled her nieces and nephews. Lucille also had two God-children, Stacie Brown and Tamara Peatross.

Lucille was a kind and loveable person, who enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved spending time with her family, especially cooking for them. Her sweet potato pies were to die for, among other various dishes. She looked forward to family gatherings and enjoyed her getaways to Florida, Myrtle Beach, Atlanta, the Outer Banks, Carter Mountain, and Washington, D.C. to name a few. If you truly knew Lucille, her greatest passion was shopping with her ride or die sister, Charlene – where you saw one the other was not far behind. “Belk’s” was her favorite department store.

Lucille was the first woman to become chairman of the Trustee Board of the Historic Brown Grove Baptist Church. She also served as the President of the Usher’s Ministry, sang with the Rainey Memorial Gospel Choir and worked on the hospitality committee. She was a Sunday School scholar until her health began to fail. Lucille was a dedicated and diligent worker who gave her best to everything she endeavored. Our God has called one of his faithful servants from labor to reward. She will be truly missed, but never forgotten.

Lucille leaves to cherish her memories five siblings, devoted Emanuel Robinson, Jr. (Dorothy), Earnest Robinson, Sr. (Patricia), Gloria Robinson, and devoted Charlene Robinson, all of Richmond, Virginia, and Charles Robinson of Atlanta, Georgia; one aunt, Mary Anderson; five nephews, Earnest Robinson, Jr., Brooks Robinson, Justin, Nicholas (Jessica), and Gavin Tyler; two nieces, Breanna Fox and Buffie Nichelle Bugg; three great nephews, Christian and Armaan Robinson and Nico Tyler, three great nieces, Ari Robinson, Draya and Deondra Liggans, one great-great nephew, Giobanni Robinson. A host of other relatives and friends.
