Lorenzo Stephens peacefully passed away on May 25, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on August 21, 1944, in the charming town of Holly Springs, NC, Lorenzo was a beacon of love, resilience, and joy to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Lorenzo was the beloved son of Milton and Victoria Stephens, who nurtured his early years with warmth and care. He grew up in Holly Springs, attending Fuquay Consolidated Schools, where he began to cultivate his love for music and dance – passions that would accompany him throughout his life In addition, he was a fashion icon. Indeed, he was always well dressed. Lorenzo was raised in the church by his parents. He was an active member of Oak Grove Missionary Church in Apex, North Carolina, where he sang in the church choir. From his youth until his retirement in March of 2000, he was an avid worker. He drove the school bus in high school, and later was employed at Fiber Mark Specialty Paper Company and Hyatt Hotels.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Lorenzo’s family was the cornerstone of his life. He shared his journey with his cherished wife, Towanda Stephens, who stood by his side through many adventures. Together, they created a home filled with laughter, love, and an unwavering bond. His devotion to family was so strong that he was determined to attend as many family functions as possible to show his support. These include cookouts, weddings, family reunions, and homegoing’s. In fact, in the latter stages of his life, even though he did not feel well, he still attended the wedding of one of his great nephews in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Lorenzo’s zest for life was infectious. He had an insatiable curiosity for the world, often traveling to explore new places and cultures. His love for music and dance was a testament to his vibrant spirit, as was his fondness for talking on the CB radio and people-watching – simple pleasures that brought immense joy.
Though Lorenzo’s journey was not without its trials, he faced each challenge with remarkable courage and strength, attributes that inspired all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Victoria; his brothers, Marvin, William, Jasper and Milton, Jr.; his sister, Edna Pinder; and his beloved children, Annette and Ricky Stephens; and grandson, Chaz Brown.
Lorenzo leaves behind a loving legacy, survived by his wife, Towanda; his three stepdaughters, Melvisha Murray, Kawandra Epps, and Lecara Allen; his son-in-law, Toni Thaniel; daughter-in-law, Elaine Stephens; his devoted granddaughter, Shawana Stephens; devoted grandson, Deshon Lorenzo Stephens; his sisters, Dazelle Jones, and Catherine Worley; devoted nephew, Earl McEachin; sister-in-law, Peggy Stephens; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a friends, specifically, a devoted friend, George Hembrick, whose long-lasting friendship he cherished.
