Lonnie M. Janes Obituary

Lonnie McCoy Janes, of Richmond, Virginia, formerly of Charles City, Virginia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 25, 2025. He was born January 23, 1945 to the late Nina Whitehead Janes and Ned Joseph Janes.

Lonnie graduated from Ruthville High School with the Class of 1964. Following graduation, he was employed by Smurfit Stone Container Corporation until his induction into the United States Army in November 1965. Upon completing his military service, Lonnie returned to Smurfit Stone Container Corporation before joining Deluxe Check Printers as a Cutter Operator in 1972, where he remained until his retirement in 2000.

Accepting Christ as his Savior, Lonnie was baptized and became a member of St. John Baptist Church at an early age. He was an active member, attending faithfully until his health declined in August 2025.

On June 29, 1968, Lonnie married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Patricia Cotman Janes. Their union resulted in the birth of identical twin girls, who unfortunately passed away at birth. For 57 years, they remained devoted to each other, appreciating life's simple joys.

Lonnie was a quiet man, quite laid back, seldom letting anything upset him. He took pride in his appearance, always making sure his shoes were spotless and shining. He was also a family man, who enjoyed spending time with friends, playing golf and watching his favorite football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In addition to his parents, Lonnie was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce A. Janes and his brothers Daniel B. Janes, Sr. and Carl S. Janes.

Lonnie leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Patricia C. Janes; five nieces, Tina Janes Smith (devoted), Whitney Branch, Danielle Janes, Sandra Janes, and Mia Percy; one nephew, Daniel B. Janes, Jr; five godchildren, Shirlene Eaddy (devoted), Whitney Branch, Ronald Craddock, Brian McCall and Deanna Roberts; five sisters-in-law, Diane Allen, Julene Branch, Dr. Janet C. Crawley (Cornelius, Jr.), Kathy Jones (Vance) and Delcenia Prentiss (RuƯin, Jr.); one brother-in-law, Gerald Carter; one sister-in-love, Evette Hobson (Leon); a number of cousins (among them devoted James A. Brown, Betty Hicks and Lisa Janes), greatnieces and great-nephews, and many devoted friends (among them Cornelius Crawley, Jr. (Janet), Jerome Davis, Marvin Hawkins (Gladys), RuƯin Prentiss, Jr. (Delcenia), Carrie Williams and Posey Young (Rhonda) and family.

A funeral service will be held held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at St. John Baptist Church, 8131 Roxbury Road, Charles City, VA, with a viewing held one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow at the St. John Baptist Church Cemetery.
