Jean Sutton Marlowe Watford was born October 13, 1940 to Roger Sutton and Mary Rascoe Sutton in Windsor, North Carolina. Jean surrendered peacefully and quietly to God’s call Saturday, November 16th at Autumn Care Nursing Home in Mechanicsville, Virginia. Both her parents preceded her in death. Her siblings, Floretta Spruill, and Earl Sutton, also preceded her in death.
At an early age Jean was baptized and accepted Christ as her personal savior. She was an active member of Cedar Landing Baptist Church in Windsor, NC until her health failed. She moved to Richmond, Virginia with her daughter, Mary and son-in-love, Ken McRae.
Jean’s love was her husband, Grover Watford, Sr. who preceded her in death; her three children, Rickey Marlowe (Renata) of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Mary Marlowe McRae (Ken) of Richmond, Virginia, and Elmer Marlowe, Jr. (Angela) of Murfreesboro, North Carolina; and her step children, Jean Mitchell (Sedford), Elaine Bond (Ray), Randolph Watford (Rosa), and Grover Watford Jr. (Deborah) all of Colerain, North Carolina.
Jean was a nurse by profession, which she loved wholeheartedly. She served dutifully for over 40 years in various hospitals until her retirement in 2009. Jean loved fashion, decorating, family, friends, crossword puzzles, and serving the Lord. She didn’t meet you with, “how are you?” she met you with, “Praise the Lord!”
Jean’s love and legacy will remain in the hearts of her three children, five stepchildren, 11 grandchildren, two nephews, one niece, and a host of in-laws, relatives and friends to cherish her memory.
