Jean C. Williams, born in Farmville, Virginia, was the second of six children born to Martha Griggs Smith and Roscoe Smith Sr. She was affectionally known to her family as Jean Carol.
The family moved to Eastern Henrico, Virginia, where she was baptized at the Fair Oaks Baptist Church. She attended the Fair Oaks Elementary School in Highland Springs, Virginia and Armstrong High School in Richmond, Virginia.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her youngest son Gerrard, her sister Peggy and her brother Charles (Bill).
For thirty years she was a Special Education teacher assistant at Amelia Street School; a role that was dear to her heart. Her love for her special needs students showed in every interaction whether it was helping her students with their daily lessons or taking them on field trips to the bowling alley or on boat rides.
Jean had abundant love for all of her family, especially her sons and their families. They loved her dearly. At family gatherings, you could always expect delicious dishes from Jean. From her macaroni salad to her candied yams everything she made was a big hit.
Her sense of style was apparent to everyone who knew her. If Jean was attending a gathering, she was definitely going to be fashionable.
Jean’s memory will forever be cherished by: Sons, George Matthew (Marlene) and Gregory (Monica) and her daughter-in-love Priscilla Jones; Sister, Barbara S. Brown; Brothers, Roscoe Smith Jr. (Grace) and Carl Eugene Smith; Grandchildren, Marques Gerald Williams (Jennifer), DeAngelo Williams, Dominique Finney, Daniel Wray and Ruby Wray; Great Grandchildren, Zoe Williams and Tatum Williams; Nieces, Vonda Smith Finney, Mary K. Brown and Laronyi Smith; Great Niece, Rajah Smith; Great Nephews, Jordan and Qudrel Crawley; and many other loving family members and caring friends including Sadie Dabney and Pamela Bailey.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, September 26, 2025 at the Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service Chapel, 5004 Nine Mile Rd., Richmond, VA. A viewing, with the family present to receive visitors, held one hour prior to service.
Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
