Jean C. May

Ms. Jean Carolyn May, affectionately known as “Jeannie” answered the Master’s call and entered eternal rest on Thursday, July 17, 2025. She was born to the late James May and Lucy May Bright on February 23, 1946. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Mason, and James May; one sister, Lydia Francois; one nephew, Kenneth Mason; two nieces, Stephanie Massenburg, and Alona Mason; and one great nephew, Terrell T. Brown.

Jean was born in Carson, Virginia. She was educated at Disputanta High School and enjoyed playing the trombone in the band. She enjoyed working in the health field, performed jobs in the American Security Groups and worked faithfully at the Virginia Science Museum. Jean was a true pillar of strength and resilience. She faced life’s challenges with courage and determination, setting and inspiring example for those who knew her. Her unwavering faith provided her with solace and guided her through difficult times. Jean had great love for children although she did not have any of her own; however, her niece, Judith Lee was like a daughter to her. She was a pleasant person with a contagious smile, and warm heart.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, one devoted, Roselyn Hayes, and Keisha Davis; devoted niece, Judith Lee (Melvin); a host of nephews, great nephews, great nieces, cousins, and friends; among them residents of the boulder building.

Jean is forever free from her sickness and pain. She is now resting in the arms of our Savior. So, let us rejoice and be thankful for the time we shared.

A viewing will be held from 10 am - 7 pm on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service - East Chapel, 5008 Nine Mile Road, Richmond, VA, where funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Friday, August 1, 2025.

Internment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.  

The family is receiving services of comfort from Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service - East Chapel.
