J. Everett Graves, 84, of Richmond, Virginia, was called home on October 6, 2025. He is survived by his daughter, Julia Graves Muller (Eric), grandsons, Tristan and Taran Muller, sister-in-law Theresa Hill, and his loving partner, Sally Collins. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Myrna.
Everett proudly served in the National Guard and dedicated 23 years to the City of Richmond Fire Department, where he was known for his courage, kindness, and steady good humor. A lifelong lover of music, Everett especially enjoyed jazz and gospel, often filling his home with the sound of his favorite tunes. He had an adventurous spirit and a deep love of the open road—regularly making cross-country drives to California to visit his daughter and her family.
Everett will be remembered for his generosity, quiet strength, and devotion to those he loved. His presence brought warmth and laughter to every room, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A viewing will be held from 12 p.m. - 7 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, with the family receiving friends from 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. at Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service - East Chapel, 5004 Nine Mile Rd., Richmond, VA, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Richmond, VA.
