On January 5, 2021 Iris Jeanette Jones Adkins gained her wings and transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home. She was born on February 7, 1928 to the late James Henry Jones and Bertha Williams Jones. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Fred D. Adkins and her siblings, Cleveland, Henry, Horace Elmo and Charlie Jones, Clara Dillard, Ella Harris and Mamie Bradby.
At an early age, Iris Jeanette dedicated her life to Christ and became a member of the Little Elam Baptist Church. For many years she served on the Hospitality Committee where she became known for fixing the best greens and candied yams. She was also a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class where she was always willing and able to give a wonderful summary of the lesson. Iris was a faithful member until she became caretaker for several family members and then her health began to decline.
Iris was a woman of many talents-excellent homemaker, outstanding cook, great gardener, self-taught seamstress and a dedicated mother and grandmother.
She is survived by a son, Fred M. Adkins; daughter, Lois Jones; sister, Hilda Cotman (Stanley); grandchildren, Lynnie Jones (Marvin), Michael Jones (dedicated and caretaker), Ray Jones and Brock Adkins and a bonus granddaughter, Christi Swinson; great grandsons, Jackson and McKinley Keel-Atkins; a host of nieces, nephews including a dedicated niece, Helen Charity, and a bonus nephew} Beverly Tyler and other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service - East Chapel, 5008 Nine Mile Road, Richmond, with viewing being held one hour prior to the service.
Interment to follow the service at Little Elam Baptist Church Cemetery, Charles City, VA.
