Howard T. Jones

On Friday, May 23,2025, Mr. Howard Tyrone Jones, 73, transitioned peacefully from life to eternal reward in the Critical Care Unit of the Medical College of Virginia. Howard Jones of Petersburg, Virginia, was born August 24, 1951, to the late Howard and Hilda Jones.

He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Friendship Baptist Church. He joined the Richmond Christian Center in 1987, where he was later ordained as an Associate Pastor. Howard attended Hopewell Public Schools and graduated from Hopewell High School in 1969. After graduation, Howard began work at Hercules Chemical. After retirement, Howard continued work at various mortgage companies.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Hilda Jones, his brothers Ronald ‘Ronnie’ and Gregory Jones.

Left to cherish his precious memories are his beautiful wife of 53 years, Jewell Evelyn Desmore Jones, daughters Sonya Jones (Robert), April Jones Edwards (Carson), son, Howard Tyrone (TJ) Jones II (Sybil), granddaughters Aiyhana Murdock, Sydney Jones, Alicia and Chelsea Edwards, and grandson Howard Tyrone (Tre) Jones III. Sister Cynthia Jones Harrington (Howard), and brother Kirk Jones (Debra). Sister in-laws, Lois Ann Jones, Karen Jones, Tonya Friend (Arnold), Natalie Desmore, Lenita Desmore. Brother in-law, Milton Earl Desmore (Paulette), and lifelong devoted friends Moses ‘Mo Jack’ Jackson, Ed Whiting, and Leonard Daniels, and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Metropolitan Baptist Church, 1021 Halifax Street, Petersburg, VA. 

The family is receiving services of comfort from Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service - East Chapel, 5008 Nine Mile Rd., Richmond, VA.
