Edward L. Wiggins Obituary

Edward Leroy Wiggins, 75, of Richmond, VA entered eternal rest on Friday, November 14, 2025 at Regional Memorial Hospital in Hanover, VA.

Leroy “Bear’ as he was affectionately called was born November 2, 1950 in Norfolk, VA to Therese Virginia Bell Wiggins Dixon and David Leroy Warren. He was raised by his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Carriebell Williams in the Campostella area of Norfolk, VA. He was a member of St. Thomas AME Zion Church during his early years. He attended the public schools in Norfolk, VA. He later moved to Richmond, VA. where he began working at the Richmond Hat Factory and various entities.

Bear was a jokester, and he loved his family and friends. He touched many lives in  the Norfolk and Richmond area, and will surely be missed by all.

He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers , James Ivory Dixon, Jerome Ivan Dixon, Nathaniel Allen Dixon, and Ronald Calvin Dixon; one son, Corey Puryear, and the mother of four of his children, Ms. Chandra Blathers.

Leroy leaves to mourn his children, Robbie Puryear (Charlene), Edward Leroy Wiggins, Jr., Jamal Ghee, Keeon Blathers, LeeKari Blathers, Kordell Blathers; and step-son  Rayzell Blathers; daughter-in-law – Ginger Rouse Puryear, 8 grandchildren- DeAndre Rouse (Kaylin), Jamal Ghee, Jr., Khloe Blathers, Kamila Blathers, Keeon Blathers, Jr., Karina Espinosa, Za’Miyah Blathers and Za’liyah Blathers; six sisters, Regina Wiggins Rivera (George) of Chester, VA., Carolyn Wiggins of Norfolk, VA., Joyce Dixon Carter (Randy) of Richmond VA., Constance Dixon Sorogane (Anne) of California, Sandra-Vaughn Dixon, and Rosalind Dixon Russell (Michael) of Richmond, VA.; two sisters-in-law; two aunts –,Barbara Williams of Newport, Rhode Island, and Zola Wilson Harris of Norfolk, VA.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends.

Bear will surely be missed by all for his loud laughter and his gentle demeanor. He loved the Philadelphia Eagles and could “discuss” every play they made!!

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service - East Chapel, 5004 Nine Mile Rd., Richmond, VA.
