Dorothy was born on March 24, 1933, in Richmond, Virginia, and transitioned peacefully on February 2, 2025. She was a devoted mother, faithful servant of God, and compassionate caregiver whose life reflected love, service, and dignity. She was the beloved daughter of Jessie Booker and George Percell Armistead, Jr., both of whom preceded her in death.
A loving mother of two sons, she leaves to cherish her memory her eldest son, Landon Davis, and her youngest son, Berkeley Davis, who is married to Charlena “Katrice” Davis. Dorothy’s greatest joy was her family, whom she loved deeply and served selflessly throughout her life.
She dedicated her professional life as a nurse at the Medical College of Virginia (MCV), where her compassion and commitment to caring for others were evident in all she did. A lifelong disciple of The Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Dorothy served faithfully and was honored as Deaconess Emeritus, leaving a lasting legacy of humility, service, and devotion to God. She was also a proud member of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated, where she upheld the organization’s commitment to service, leadership, and excellence in nursing.
Beyond her professional and church life, Dorothy found deep joy in reading from her extensive personal library, gardening, and an enduring appreciation for art. These passions reflected her thoughtful spirit, creativity, and love of lifelong learning. She was also known for her love of shopping and fashion, always carrying herself with grace and style.
She is also survived by her loving siblings, Deacon Emeritus George Armistead, III (Rev. Juanita) and Deacon Cora Smith (Dea. Jerry); her cherished granddaughters, Demetria, Kiaundra, Jessyka, and Jasmine; her beloved great-grandchildren, Melvin and Nia; great great grandchildren, Soni, Favor, and Blossom and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family, sorors, and friends who will forever treasure her memory.
