Doris "Dickie" Burton Obituary

Doris Mae Burton, 89, of Richmond, VA entered peacefully into eternal rest on January 26, 2024.  She was born in Charles City County on July 24, 1934 to Henry and Lutetia Bowman. She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Sebastian Burton; son, Donald Wayne Burton; five brothers: James Bowman, Emmett Bowman, Andrew Bowman, Lloyd Bowman and Allen Bowman;  and four sisters: Thelma Jones, Lois Houston, Estelle Clark and Anna Johnson.

Doris accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Union Baptist Church in Charles City.  She was educated in the Charles City County public school system.  After graduating she met and married the love of her life Samuel Burton.  Out of this union came two sons Keith and Donald (Jake), and a daughter Donna.  She was employed at Federal Reserve Bank for over 30 years until retirement.  She was well loved by her coworkers who looked forward each morning to seeing her beautiful smile.  Her work ethic was unmatched, she was always the first one into work, and a team player willing to help anyone.

Doris, affectionately known as Dickie, was loved by all.  She was a caring person that would give you her last dime and the clothes off her back if you needed them.  She was an amazing cook and everyone came to her house after church on Sundays. She was known for her rice pudding and chocolate cake.  Her homemade biscuits were second to none. She enjoyed sitting on her porch and talking to her neighbors, and people walking by.  She enjoyed the soaps, but her favorite shows were Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.  She cherished each golden moment that God granted her to share and serve others.

Left to treasure her precious memories are her devoted son, Keith Burton (Denice); daughter, Donna Burton; two grandchildren, Kristin and Brittany Burton; a devoted niece, Prince Pleasants; a caring and loving friend, Ella Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends

She truly loved her family.  She had a heart of gold and was always putting the needs of others before her own.  She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
