Cynthia A. Ballard Obituary

Ms. Cynthia Ann Ballard, a beloved resident of Richmond, VA, peacefully departed this earth on March 8, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on April 2, 1948, Cynthia was raised in Hampton, VA, by her parents, Johnnie Lee Holloman, Sr., and Mary M. Holloman. She is now reunited with her parents and siblings, Evelyn Lee, Johnnie Lee Holloman Jr., Robert “Bob” Holloman, and Christopher “Chris” Holloman. Cynthia is survived by her younger sister Regina Holloman, residing in Hampton, Virginia.

Cynthia completed her primary and secondary education within the Hampton Public Schools. At a young age, she gave her life to the Lord under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Gray of Gray’s Temple. Cynthia later became a licensed minister under Pastor Estelle Williams at the Holy Church of Deliverance in Newport News, VA where she served faithfully.

In 1988, Cynthia moved to Richmond, VA, where she committed more than two decades of her life to her work in Plant and Facilities at Virginia Commonwealth University. She concluded her rewarding career in this field upon retirement.

At the core of Cynthia's existence was her cherished family. She leaves behind four children: Maurice Ballard from Newport News, Virginia; Sharon Webb from Richmond, Virginia; Lonnie W. Ballard Jr. from Fayetteville, North Carolina; Tommy Ballard from Washington, D.C.; along with two beloved granddaughters, Dionna and Alyssa Webb, and numerous other relatives and loved ones.

Cynthia's greatest happiness came from her family, and she took immense pride in sharing their successes. She taught her children the importance of faith, the necessity of a good education, and the crucial practice of placing God at the center of everything in their lives.

Cynthia was known for her deep faith and enthusiasm for gospel music, being an active member of the United Nations Church in Richmond. She often traveled the east coast corridor to enjoy quartet music with her close friends. The moments she spent traveling and with her family were precious to her, creating lasting memories that will forever be treasured.

Cynthia Ballard's kind soul, love, culinary skills, life dedicated to intercessory prayer, and infectious laughter deeply impacted many. While she will be greatly missed, we take comfort in believing that "to be absent from the body is to be present with God." May she rest in everlasting peace.
