Chris A. Sendra Obituary

Chris Alan Sendra, 64, of Mechanicsville, VA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at VCU Massey Cancer Center. A beloved husband and father, world-traveler and outdoors enthusiast who was loved by many.

Born in Hartford, Connecticut to Cecil and Dorthy Sendra (preceded in death), he moved to Danby, Vermont with his family.  He attended Currier Memorial School, then Burr & Burton Seminary and Vermont Technical College for Engineering. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic Church where he served as an Altar Boy for several years. In his youth, he was active in Boy Scout Troop 319.  Chris was also an avid lover of the outdoors and nature, enjoying hiking, fishing and hunting. He spent multiple years living in Massachusetts with his extended family and starting his career in Engineering.

Chris is survived by his wife Bonita, the love of his life, who he met on Good Friday outside of the VCU Library in 1986. They got married in 1988 and started their family shortly after. He is survived by his daughters, Kimberly (Aaron) and Kristin whom he adored. Chris is survived by his siblings: Cathy (Tary), Kevin (Michelle), Kelly, Ross, Keith and Gary (Shelly). Additionally, he is survived by his second Mother, Mary and his Mother-In-Law, Barbara. Chris was also survived by his Sister-In-Laws: Nancy (Ro), Marilyn (Nelson), Claudine (Duke), Bertha and his nieces & nephews: Nedesha, Chanel, Raven, Jordan, Quenton, Auburn (Nicole), Dresden, Maia, and Alia. He leaves to mourn an aunt, uncles and cousins.

Chris recently retired from Henrico County after 34 years of service. He was a devoted family man who spent every Saturday gathering with his family, eating, laughing and enjoying each other’s company. He loved to travel the world alongside his family and his favorite trip they shared was their Alaskan Cruise. Being an avid hiker, he loved spending time in Shenandoah National Park, especially when visiting Massanutten Resort. You could also find him daily walking along the battlefields near his home.  Chris had a fantastic sense of humor, and he kept his family laughing. Even in his final days he continued to make jokes alongside his family.

A memorial service will honor him locally on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Pilgrim Journey Baptist Church in Henrico, Virginia. Additionally, a celebration of life will take place in Danby, Vermont on Saturday, March 15th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to VCU Massey Cancer Center or Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center. The church will be available (Friday, February 28th, from 12:00 PM until 4:00 PM) for those who wish to send flowers.
