Barbara L. Givens

Barbara Laverne Givens, age 67, of Richmond, VA was born October 12, 1952 to Meredith Givens and Nehemiah Givens. She departed this life on September 15, 2020.  She was preceded in death by her father, Nehemiah Givens, Sr. and her brother, Nehemiah Givens, Jr.

Barbara attended the Richmond Public Schools.  She graduated from Virginia State University with her bachelor’s degree.  After college she enlisted in the Army at the rank of Captain.  She served in the Army for 23 years before retiring.  Barbara also did volunteer work at McGuire Veterans Hospital.

Barbara was baptized at Cedar Street Baptist Church.  She was on the Missionary Board.  Barbara loved spending time with her mother who will miss her dearly.

She leaves to cherish her memories her mother, Meredith Givens; brother, Wayne Givens (Mary); nephew, Nehemiah Givens, III and other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held 1 p.m. - 8 p.m. Monday, September 21, 2020 at Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service - East Chapel, 5008 Nine Mile Road, Richmond, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2020.

Interment will follow the funeral service at Oakwood Cemetery.

The family has entrusted final arrangements to Wilson & Associates' Funeral Service - East Chapel, 5008 Nine Mile Road, Richmond, VA.
