Alfreda Maria Toler was born on Monday, December 31, 1956, in Richmond, Virginia to the late Nellie M. Tucker (Graine) and Alfonzo F. Smith. She departed this life and entered the presence of the Lord on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
Alfreda attended Morning Star Baptist Church, where the seed of faith was planted within her. As a child, she loved to take care of her family, she always stepped in with love and care for them. Alfreda enjoyed fashion and decorating as a child. She would decorate her doll houses and dress her Barbie dolls. As she got older, her love for fashion and design led to her studying it in college. Alfreda obtained degrees in early childhood education, fashion merchandising, and interior design.
After the birth of her first daughter, Tonya Toler, she found a passion for teaching. Being a mother to her daughter pushed her to understand the importance of loving and teaching children so they can grow strong and mighty. She rededicated her life to Christ at True Apostolic Church in the 1980s. By the time her daughter Heather was born, she had been teaching at True Apostolic Church's "Citadel of Hope" and would eventually move to teach preschool at the Richmond Christian Center until the early 1990s. In 1995, Alfreda opened her learning center, Children Are My World, where she would spend over 20 years teaching children and loving their families. She saw many of her students graduate high school, get married, and have children. She loved teaching her "kids" and watching them learn and grow into faith-filled adults making their path in this world. In that time, she was able to love and raise both of her daughters, watching them graduate high school and college.
Alfreda loved crafting, sewing, crocheting, painting, yoga, and power walking on a beautiful day. She enjoyed music and dancing, as well as good Italian food such as spaghetti and for dessert, cheesecake. Alfreda was always full of love, encouragement, and joy. She would often spend her time encouraging, praying, teaching, and even preaching to those around her about the love of God. She loved reading, sitting by the water, and spending time with the Lord. She was a long-time member of Faith Landmark Ministries in Richmond, VA, and New Life Outreach International, where she loved to praise and dance before the Lord. Alfreda always had an immense love for families. She would do her best to be the hands of God to help and love anyone in need of counseling.
Alfreda is survived by her daughter, Tonya Toler (Katrina Frierson), daughter, Heather Toler, and her loving grandpup, Nola Blue.
