Alfred L. Anderson Obituary

Alfred Lloyd Anderson, born on September 12, 1952, in Richmond, VA, to Thomas L. Anderson and Mary T. Anderson, passed away leaving a legacy of dedication and camaraderie.

Alfred attended Richmond city public schools and graduated from Armstrong High School in 1971. He had a passion for sports, often attending local high school games and enjoying televised sports. His deep knowledge of sports statistics and players was well known among his friends and family.

After high school, Alfred enlisted in the US Marine Corps, serving near the end of the Vietnam conflict. Following his service, he returned to Richmond, where he was a teacher and a Richmond Police Officer. He would later dedicate many years working for the city. He started in road maintenance and later moved to Richmond Laundry Services, where he would eventually retire.

Throughout his life, Alfred forged many friendships, some brief and others lasting. One of his most enduring relationships was with Rosalyn Clayton, known affectionately as Roz.

Alfred was preceded in death by his father, mother, aunt, and older brother, Robert L. Anderson. He is survived by one brother, Kamau, and three sisters, as well as a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Born into the prevailing Christian society, Alfred also explored the study of Islam, becoming a student of the religion in the Western Hemisphere. He was known for his ability to maintain meaningful connections with long-time friends and his life's philosophy of not overlooking the basics, ignoring the positive, or complicating the simple.

Alfred Lloyd Anderson's life was a testament to dedication, friendship, and the pursuit of knowledge. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
